Assisted Learning Program Services Weekly classes for home educated secondary level students who are members of MDHSA. This program is a service of Mason Dixon Homeschoolers Association and is intended to assist parents as they educate their secondary level students. It is not intended to take the place of parental supervisions and oversight. Classes are held Tuesdays from mid September through mid May,
with a significant break over the end of year holiday season. See
the MDHSA calendar for the current dates and deadlines. ALPS exists to serve parents. Its purpose is to provide assistance to parents as they seek to provide a secondary level education to their home-educated students. The classes assist the parents by providing periodic (weekly) instruction to the students in selected subjects, access to instructors who know and love the subjects they are teaching, and assignments that provide accountability to the third party teachers. ALPS courses are designed to be a support to the home education program providing a framework for a course of study. Enrolling a student in an ALPS class does not absolve the parents of their responsibility to oversee their student's education. Parents are still responsible to meet the requirements of the Pennsylvania Homeschool Law, monitoring their student's work to ensure that the assignments are completed, and that the required number of days or hours are met. Parents of high school students must ascertain that their teens are meeting the requirements of a diploma program, if one has been chosen, and/or college admission requirements.
